Other than that, the DreamCast version running in an emulator would probably be the best, or the GameCube version via Nintendont or Devolution if you want to play it on a recent console.ĮDIT2: It's also notable that the N64 version is the only port that has support for 3 and 4 players.ĮDIT3: No idea about the PS1 and original arcade version, but the quicker secondary method of getting a +4 boost at the start (shown in the video) does not exist in the Dreamcast/PS2/GC/Xbox/PC ports (only the slower hydro-jump method is present said hydro-jump method also exists in the N64 version).ĮDIT4:: Also, at least relative to the N64 version, the event timing of any music changes in the GameCube version seems somewhat borked up. Or I can buy the Playstation version of Hydro Thunder for 30, and it isn't even exactly the same game (the graphics were simplified a bit for the Playstation). The only thing is that I cannot recommend the Xbox or GameCube versions due to a couple technical issues - the Xbox version can sometimes have its save data corrupted while the GameCube version seems to not be able to unlock the final racetrack (Catacombs) EDIT: The Catacombs issue apparently exists in the MATDE PC version as well, so it's very possible that the issue also occurs in the PS2 and Xbox versions. For those that don't know, Hydro Thunder was originally an arcade game that was ported to a bunch of platforms - PS1, N64, DreamCast, PC, PS2, GameCube, and Xbox.
